Our Story

In 2006, the National Licensing Association developed the #1 ALERT liquor liability prevention training course to raise the standards of alcohol liability prevention training in the United States. We believe that this training is necessary because we observed a general misunderstanding of laws, regulations, and often a lack of training in server liability prevention within the industry.

Alcohol overconsumption is a serious and costly social problem in our country. The 2011 World Health Organization’s Health Report indicates that United States taxpayers spend over $234 billion every year on preventable alcohol problems including; drunk driving, increases in crime and sexual assault, addiction, birth complications, and numerous alcohol related health problems. These are problems that are affecting our communities and quality of life.

The role of the state and federal government in the U.S. is to create regulations and laws in order to protect us through preventing these kinds of problems from occurring. Often these laws and regulations can result in liabilities incurred by negligence or lack of awareness of the laws. Since servers, bartenders, and managers in the hospitality industry have direct control of alcohol service and sales, they have a greater than average chance of facing situations that can result in serious liabilities.

The #1 ALERT program is designed to prepare servers, bartenders and managers to recognize potential liabilities as well as techniques that can prevent these liabilities from occurring. The course includes topics like understanding state and federal laws and regulations, how to properly check IDs, how to effectively deal with problem customers, etc. Since 2006, #1 ALERT has trained over 10,000 servers, bartenders and managers through valued partnerships with over 500 businesses and has set a new GOLD Standard in liability prevention training nationwide.
